Hello Everyone!
Yippee, We’re Home!
Terry and I have so many good things to report from our Spain outreach! Thanks to all of you for your prayers and financial support. God has done mighty works through you! Here are a few highlights:
Pastor’s Teenage Sons Get Saved!
When we arrived we took some time for preparation, prayer and planning with Juan Blake and those that organized our “tour”. We then gave our first marriage seminar in Spanish in the largest church in Barcelona. We had our computer PowerPoint translated, as well as our speaking. That audience and more came back for the evening concert where we sang in Spanish, worshipping, and ministering to family needs.
At the concert’s conclusion, numerous people stood up to accept Christ and receive prayer. Two of those standing were teenage sons of the pastor of a local Salvation Army Church. She and her husband had been praying for years for them to accept Christ. Praise God! Even if this was all we came to Spain for, this would have been enough. God used our music, message, and YOUR PRAYERS and donations to save these and many others…
Give Me Two Kisses! (Dame Dos Besos!)
If you’ve ever been to parts of Europe, you know they have the endearing custom of kissing you on both cheeks upon greeting you. In one church the pastor had all the people come up one by one to give us each two kisses. It took awhile, but we felt warmly received and loved.
Everyone Pray for Ten Lost Souls!
Everywhere we went, we were enthusiastically invited back! Churches got the vision to join together and use city-wide events to reach the lost. This is a place where the ground is hardened to the Gospel. But God is doing a new thing.
When ministering in Manresa near Montserrat, we heard that many of the churches across Spain have joined together to fervently pray for the lost – each member of each church involved has chosen 10 lost souls and has committed to fervently pray for them until 2010! They are praying that God will send laborers! Isn’t that great?! I guess that’s why God sent US – people are praying!
Our Translator Got Saved!
Unlike our experiences in Central and South American countries, fewer people seemed to know how to speak English well in Spain. Even our translators for the marriage seminars and concerts had a challenging time, occasionally not understanding us. This was often hilarious, but somehow the Holy Spirit “translated” and God still moved!
One Thursday night, in a little store-front church (most of the churches are tiny!), our translator began to falter during the end-of-concert invitation to accept Jesus. She was from Brazil, and she and her friend ended up running to the altar after the invitation was given. Both were weeping under conviction. The pastor took it from there, as we could no longer communicate without our translator. Praise God for the Holy Spirit'sconvicting power!
Radio Interview Reaches a Potential 4 Million!
One of the well-known and highly respected Pastors in Barcelona requested a live radio interview that covered much of Barcelona’s metropolitan area during the evening prime-time rush hour. We had nearly 75 minutes to share hope for marriages through God’s Word as well as music from our Spanish CD. We encouraged couples to spend time praying together and reading God’s Word, which is filled with principles that help to encourage, cultivate, and revive romantic love. We emphasized that it was God that created marriage and romance.
Though in recent years Spain has gone from a Third World country to 8th in the world in wealth, numerous people still have an unmet SPIRITUAL thirst. Many gained a fresh burden for revival and awakening as we sang “Manda Lluvia” which means “Send Your Rain”… a call to God, asking for His presence, mercy and an outpouring of His grace on their nation.
The Heart of Spain!
Fifteen+ churches came together in the city of Guadalahara (a few miles from Madrid, the center of Spain) under the leadership of Dr. Romero Bouret and his wife Dr. Esther Bouret (two African Doctors saved in the Dominican Republic and called by God to plant a church together in Spain). They put together our "Christian Concert" in the downtown Cultural Center to reach the city.
All the couples attending this city-wide event were invited to a Marriage Banquet and Seminar afterwards (most Spaniards eat very late – usually after 9:30 PM – and bedtime and breakfast are also very late. It wasn’t uncommon to finish our meals after midnight and hit the sack at 2:00 AM). At about 11:00 PM we began Part One of our Marriage Seminar in Guadalahara!
The next day, Barbi woke up with laryngitis, so Terry finished the seminar and sang a couple of our Spanish songs alone. God began to move…and six couples came forward weeping and asking for prayer. And one couple made a first-time decision for Christ!
We Could Share More, But We Won’t…
We know that you rejoice with us over so many lives that were changed. Each place we went brought new experiences, friends, and newly birthed brothers and sisters in Christ! We have been invited back for the Spring of 2009. Please pray with us as we consider the options God is giving us for greater outreach in this spiritually awakening country!!
Much love to all of you! And thanks so much for your love and support!
