The Enemy Among Us

One of the painful things that comes when you are involved in a traveling ministry is hearing about friends you've known who's marriages have failed, or who have committed a moral sin. Recently, Barbi and I heard of a close pastor friend of ours who somehow got involved in pornography... The impact on the church has been devastating, as you can imagine.

Folks, we all have an enemy out there, and he wants to destroy us, our families, our reputations, and our ministries. But we all know that the word says, "Greater is He that is within us (go ahead, you can finish the rest of the verse)." You see, when we stand on the promises of God's word, He is faithful. He will supply us with power we never dreamed we had. The fact is, we don't have the power on our own. But He gives us His power... just when we need it the most.

In the Red Sea is a unique fish called the Moses Sole fish. It's fairly ordinary looking and quite small. Also in the Red Sea are many varieties of sharks. You see where this is headed, don't you? But do you think the Moses Sole fish are afraid of those sharks? Not one bit. Because they have a little secret. This little fish goes about, happily swimming, minding it's own business. And even when a big old shark decides he wants a nice meal, the Moses Sole fish isn't frightened and doesn't run. As the shark opens his jaws to take a bite of the little guy, the Moses Sole fish secretes a substance that causes the shark's mouth to "freeze" wide open. A shark with lock-jaw is not a happy camper! And the Moses Sole fish just keeps on swimming.

Our enemy, Satan and his legions of demons, are just like that shark. He is looking to devour and destroy everything and everyone he can. But when we speak the Word of God and stand on its promises, he does more than get lock-jaw. The Word of God says that he flees.

Gang, maybe those marital problems you're having right now, or those problems getting along with another person, or that financial mountain that you can't seem to scale... are all the enemy trying to devour you. Revelations 12:12 says that the fury of the enemy is great against the believers because he knows his time is short. But we can stand on God's Word! He will never let us down. And we can keep on swimming...
