Boys Are Better Than Girls!

One day a couple of months ago, our boys, Tyler & Travis (now 9 & 10 years old), were having a discussion about girls in the back seat of our car. I couldn't help giggling as I silently listened to them. But soon my joy turned to bewilderment as they began to assure each other all the reasons why boys are BETTER than girls. I couldn't believe my burning ears!

All I could think was, "Lord, I never taught them this chauvinism against the opposite sex!" I was mortified. Finally, I knew it was time to intervene...ever so carefully. I decided to plunge in with both feet and use the Word of God to break this "stronghold" that was manifesting itself.

I've never shied away from heavy theology with my boys, figuring they'd ask me if they didn't understand, so I jumped in gently and lovingly..."You know guys, that's not Biblical." They stopped and listened...AMAZING! So I continued, "Jesus ended all of that division, discrimination, and competition between male and female when He died on the cross!" They were still silent, so I kept going, "The Bible says that, as we walk in the Spirit, the cross of Jesus breaks down all the barriers and dividing walls between us, and now there's no longer enmity between male and female, races, denominations or social classes. Now we can all be one in Jesus. Isn't that neat?"

Finally, I heard a feeble voice say, "what's enmity?" So, I kept going, "That's when someone acts like an enemy with someone else. And when you guys feel that way about girls, you're not walking in the Spirit, you're walking in the flesh!" It was there that I quit...while I felt I was still ahead. I guess it must have sunk in.

At times we ALL feel those immature feelings from our flesh. It's not just a little boy thing. Even we as Christian adults are in desperate need of reconciliation. But, through the power of the cross, we now have the authority to see this take place! May the Lord help us all to walk in peace and unity by His mighty Holy Spirit and to lay down ALL prejudice between us and see each other through God's loving eyes!
