The Alamo

I've always marveled at the courage shown by brave men at the battle of the Alamo in March 1836. You'll recall that the people of Texas had severed their relations with Mexico and the Mexican General Santa Anna sent an army of 5,000 soldiers to San Antonio to squash the Texas rebellion. The Texan's only had a force of 150 men including Lieutenant Colonel William Barret Travis, Jim Bowie, and the well-known hero Davy Crockett.

These men retreated to the Alamo where they held off Santa Anna's forces for 10 days. Travis sent out a plea for help but declared, "I shall never surrender or retreat!" After 10 days the Texans ran out of ammunition and were ultimately overrun by the dominant Mexican forces killing all inside the Alamo. But, because of their bravery it allowed Texas General Sam Houston enough time to place his army in a position where they were able to rout Santa Anna's forces and give Texas its independence.

Gang, you and I are in a battle against a huge army of demonic forces. The difference here is this: we will never run low on ammunition because "greater is He who is within us than he that is in the world"! But our attitude should be that of General Travis over 160 years ago. We should boldly declare that we shall never surrender or retreat. For our Lord will win the battle for us.
