Maybe You Are a Lighthouse

In this century the metaphor of a lighthouse has often been used to describe Jesus. I'd like for you to think of it in a different way; maybe YOU are a lighthouse.

We recently had a groundbreaking for a new office facility. One of our friends had a vision of our ministry being a lighthouse surrounded by fog and storms. I can relate to that... and I bet you can too. These are days when it seems like a great fog has descended upon the church. It's hard to tell what's real. Is what we're hearing about over here a "sign and a wonder", or is it a "lying wonder?" Is this other ministry truly anointed of God, or has it become successful through a great infusion of money and skillful marketing. As the comic George Burns said years ago, "People love sincerity, and if you learn to fake sincerity, you'll always be successful."

When that fog is all around you, it's hard to have a vision for the future. But, when we get alone with God in those quiet moments, he plants His vision into our spirits with a hope to keep shining our light no matter what. And as you shine your light (which is really the light of Jesus shining through you) you light the way for those in total darkness where, ultimately, you point them to Jesus.

The Apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesians, that God would pour out "a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened...". Gang, in these days of increasing "fog", we're going to need God's revelation like never before.

Paul also said that he didn't come in human wisdom, with it's methods of trickery and manipulation... and we should be careful to follow in his example. It's time for us to shine the inner light of Christ from within, to light the way in the fog of darkness that surrounds us, bringing hope to the lost and lonely. Maybe YOU are that lighthouse!
