Unforgettable & Unconditional

A couple months ago, I had another one of those moments with God that I will never forget.  We were in a motel room between Sunday services and had all gone down for a nap.  The only problem was, as exhausted as I was, I couldn't sleep.

Terry and our two boys had drifted off, but I lay restless and uncomfortable.  It was during that special unforgettable afternoon that God decided He needed to open my eyes a little more about His unconditional grace and love.  As I lay there, His overwhelming presence began to envelope me once again as He reminded me that He doesn't bless us BECAUSE of who we are, but because of who HE is.  I John 4:16 says that “God IS love”!

As a mother, I've experienced many new feelings.  God’s unconditional love and grace has taken on deeper meanings as life unfolds with two growing boys (now 12 & 13 years old).  Knowing that I'm coming into the testing years, I've reminded Tyler and Travis many times that though their actions may bring unpleasant consequences, they can never make me stop loving them!

I've seen one Christian mom’s love gravely tested lately as her precious son made bad choices and has gone into prison now twice.  Besides losing many of her own friends who would not stick by her through this embarrassing situation, she has gone through untold internal misery and trauma.  Has she walked away from her boy?  Absolutely NOT!  She’s rolling out the red carpet as her son is being let out of prison once again.  He is her SON and NOTHING can deter her relentless love for him.  His room is ready, spotlessly clean, and lovingly prepared for his entrance back into their home for the second time!
Romans 5:8 says that God showed His great love for us in that “while we were yet sinners” He died for us.  DID YOU GET THAT??!  God’s plan...His great longing... from the beginning of the ages was TO SHOW US HOW MUCH HE LOVES US!!  Jesus is the greatest need of mankind fulfilled...to be loved UNCONDITIONALLY!

Only after we've experienced deep rejection from others can we truly grasp the slightest impact of God’s great love.  It is THEN that OUR love is tested.  It is THEN that we can begin to comprehend God’s unforgettable and unconditional love for us!
