What A Strange Bunch We Are!

We Christians are a fascinating crowd! I’ve always been amazed at our ability to fight for causes...that are contradictory in our own lives. (Gang, I know we can sometimes get preachy in these columns, but I’m preaching at myself this month.)

We decry the fact that "prayer was removed from our schools in 1962", but how much prayer really goes on in our homes. In fact, is it possible that, through student-led prayer groups such as "See you at the Pole", and other year-round prayer activities that MORE prayer is happening in our schools....than in the average Christian home?

We shout "Amen" to the preacher’s call to win the lost to Christ. But how many of us have personally led someone to Christ in the past year? I dare say that less than 1% of you who are reading this even shared the gospel with anyone. If we did, wouldn’t our churches reflect it in new converts? The stats all point to a DECREASE in membership overall in churches across North America. And we are the only continent where Christianity is not growing.

And what about that bad stuff on the TV and in the movies. We holler about it as we stand in line for popcorn, and arrange our schedule to watch the very shows we condemn. Again, all the ratings services show that church-going folks support almost anything that Hollywood dredges up. They would change...if WE would change.

May God forgive our hypocrisy! Have we not become those with "a form of godliness.." Lord, send Revival to our hearts!!
