A Challenge To Students
As the new school year cranks up I thought I might scribble a few notes
of encouragement to all those who are beginning to hit the books again.
You have a great opportunity to learn things that will help you in the
future. Yes, you will probably forget many of the things you learned in
Algebra 2 class, or Physics…but the discipline it took to get you
through these classes will be valuable to you for years to come.
I encourage you to seek God and make a place for Him in your heart. Allow
Him to be more than a “Quiet Time” -- that would just be “adding”
Him to your life, but let Him BECOME your life (Gal.2:20) – walk
with Him, talk with Him during the day. As you face challenges, get His
counsel.
Obey Him in the small things of life…When Joshua met up with the
commander of the army of the Lord (who many theologians believe was an
Old Testament appearance of the pre-Incarnate Jesus) he was asked to do
a simple thing: Take your shoes off. A proud man might have thought this
too simple a thing, but Joshua obeyed…and was blessed for it.
Ask God to fill you with boldness for every task you face. Peter and
John were filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2…but it happened
again in Acts 4! And you and I need more than a one-time, I’m-glad-He-saved-me-and-filled-me-with-the-Holy-Ghost”
kind of an experience. We CONTINUALLY need the power of the Holy Spirit.
May God give those of you heading back to school a great year…and
for the rest of us – we never quite get out of school! Life has
many challenges and the learning never stops.
