USGN Article - October 2003 Invasion of Worms As Terry and I crisscrossed the country and traveled overseas to Nicaragua this summer, a battle broke out on the home front. Unbeknownst to us, our dry dog food attracted a family of “Indian Meal Moths” and their larva. While we were gone, worms spun tiny cocoons, multiplying themselves in our pantry and kitchen. We weren’t there to hinder this rapidly breeding invasion (each moth lays 200-400 eggs in just a few weeks time). When we came home from a 10 day tour, it had exploded. We were horrified to find an infestation of cocoons spun and worms crawling like an army all over the walls and ceilings of our pantry. It was gross! Even though we cleaned out every crevice of every shelf and container, we kept finding more cocoons, worms, and moths, We threw away several garbage bags full of groceries, flour, and crackers, etc. (even plastic utensils and unopened kleenex boxes were occupied with these worms!). Though militantly sealing every bag and food container, we couldn’t seem to kill off the multiplication efforts of the larva and cocoons of this pesky insect. We even used indoor/outdoor insecticide and several bug bombs upon leaving for the next tour, but the ravenous pests couldn’t be stopped. After our return home we had to do more cleanup of succeeding generations of worms and moths (which found a pin hole in the “sealed” bag of cat food), and we were exhausted. It became obvious to us that there was a clear prophetic message here. So I went to studying “worms” in the Bible. It may sound crazy, but did you know that both Job and King David (Job 17:13-15 and Psalm 22:1-27) called themselves a worm when they went through suffering and persecution? Also, God called Jacob a worm in the midst of suffering (Isaiah 41:14-16) and promised him retribution! Even Jesus is likened to the crimson-grub that gives her life as she lays her eggs. She permanently attaches herself to the trunk of a tree. When she dies, her body remains on the tree, protecting the larva, while the crimson dye spreads. People of God, if you are going through suffering and persecution, REJOICE! You are in good company with other worms (Heb 11:32-40). You are partaking of the fellowship of His sufferings (2 Cor 1:5-10). If we will humble ourselves as Christ did on the cross, choosing to forgive and give up our “rights” and pride, God will deliver us! The Word of God says that though “exalted” and “secure”, the ungodly will be reduced to a meal for worms and forgotten (Job 24:19-24). And those who bring reproach and insult against the godly will themselves be devoured by the moth and worm (Isa 51:7-8).
