USGN Article - January 2004 Things I’d Like To See… The beginning of a new year is a good time to evaluate things in our lives. Maybe as you read this you have already cheated on that diet you started – and you are already 12 chapters behind in the read-the-Bible-through-in-a-year plan you began on Jan 1st. We ALL start with a clean “canvas” each new year. Here are some things I’d like to see – I’ll start with things I’d like to see in my own life and then work outward from there. Maybe some of these will resonate with you: I would like to pray more than I do and make a lot less of MY requests, placing more focus on God’s desires. I have been guilty of putting other things (sometimes good things) ahead of prayer. I’d like to be a better husband and father. When our kids ask me a question, I’d like to focus entirely on them and give an answer, rather than thinking of other “more important” things at the same time. Same goes for my wife… I’d like to see more honesty and integrity in the Body of Christ. Believers should be those with STRONG marriages -- men and women who keep their word – folks that pay their bills on time, are consistent in their local church commitments, and who are not afraid to walk the “narrow road” of living out authentic Christianity. I’d like to see God bring revival within the Christian Music world. I am hearing with alarming regularity and frequency about a growing number of homosexual and bisexual men (and a few women) working within Christian music groups and working for Christian music companies. (Gang, someone needs to say this!) Have I seen this activity with my own eyes? No -- some tell me they have…There should be no question as to whether or not this is wrong -- ditto for those who fornicate and those who commit adultery. Further, I’d like to see a renewed emphasis on music MINISTRY rather than simply entertaining Christian people. We are currently awash in the latter. Lastly, I’d like to see a world that looks upon
Christians in awe– not because of some award we’ve received or because of
some human wisdom we have, but because we have stood for what we believed in
when it really cost us. I, certainly, have a LONG way to go. Will you join
me in this new year as we try to give Jesus every part of our lives? |
